Spetses – A beautiful island, in many ways
Now I’m back from a little getaway here in Greece. Last week, I traveled with my family to Spetses, a Greek island located in the Argosaronic sea. It only takes two hours to get there by boat from Piraeus, so it is a popular destination for people who live in Athens and want to spend a few days in a nice place, without traveling so far.
Spetses is an island that played a big role during the Greek Revolution in 1821, and therefore has a historical importance for the Greeks. The island’s architecture is very interesting. You can see a mix of architectural styles from the 1700s, 1800s and 1900s. There are also many beautiful beaches on Spetses. My favorite is called Agioi Anargyroi. The nightlife also has a lot to offer. There are plenty of bars, nightclubs and restaurants along the old harbor (Palio Limani). When it comes to food, seafood is of course what is most tempting when you are on a place like this! On Spetses they also make a type of traditional almondcakes that I love.
Below you can see some pictures from the area between the new and the old harbor in Spetses.
